From 1988 to 1990 Zar played his first solo shows, igniting Venice Beach haunts like the original Van Go’s Ear with his shredding style of 12 string playing, occasionally sharing the stage with fellow traveler Scott Huckaby or the newest topless window dancer. It was here that Zar met film actor Courtney Gaines, Corey Scott, and Shana O’ Neill. After an impromptu jam session, Zar joined the group called The Gathering. After many great shows, including a showcase at the Roxy, as well as some regular Highland Ground shows, Zar left L.A. to move north to Oregon. In Eugene he played bass for the Jamaican Reggae artist The Doctor, as well as numerous coffeehouse and gallery shows. In 1994 Zar moved to Taos, New Mexico, where he performed at over 30 different venues in hundreds of gigs.
